B.Comm, CASHFLOW Manager, Quickbooks, MYOB

Ryan Gollan is a management accountant & business specialist with 12+ years of broad business experience. He is a small business coach / consultant and the bookkeeping & cash flow expert.

Based in the vibrant port city of Fremantle WA and with business dealings that span the nation, Ryan specialises in guiding business improvement + growth.

Ryan focuses you solidly upfront on ‘having a life outside work’, ‘mastering your cash flow’ and using your people to achieve ‘process improvement’ leaps. Do these 3 things and the financial rewards will flow.

Ryan has always loved building things. A roll of sticky tape, a ruler, paper and cardboard were his favourite resources growing up. He hand-made all sorts of incredible things from model airplanes, spaceships, mobile cars he could play in, to full size Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles and Ghostbuster costumes – some may say he fully embraced creative time!

Due to his early love of airplanes and constructing things, being a Pilot and then an Architect were Ryan's initial career goals. These professional aspirations were soon surpassed when he picked up a guitar.

His first ‘job’ as local paperboy enabled Ryan to buy his first guitar – a beloved Gibson Les Paul which he still cherishes to this day. Saving painstakingly for this major purchase via his modest paper round wage taught him the value of money, whilst demonstrating that rewards are reaped by applying a methodical & consistent approach towards an end goal.

Ryan's high school Tertiary Education Rank (TER) was exemplary and led to a cash study grant from Deakin University for his chosen Bachelor of Commerce (B.Comm) degree. He completed his degree in 1999 with majors in Accounting and Information Systems.

While studying at university Ryan started a cover band. Based on Victoria's surf coast at the time, playing music took him in his 'spare time' from Geelong to Melbourne, Lorne, Ballarat, Bendigo, Adelaide and even over the seas to Tasmania to play.

Chartered Accounting firm Ernst & Young (E&Y) signed Ryan into their graduate employment program prior to completion of his degree. They head hunt the best candidates while still studying – testament to Ryan’s consummate academic & people skills.

Starting professionally with E&Y, Ryan gained valuable big business experience in the Entrepreneurial Services Division servicing $1-5M turnover businesses. He grew quickly into the corporate ‘norm’ of 10+ hour days. Working at the coal face provided an excellent education in how corporate firms operate.

While Ryan enjoyed the big business exposure, he loved his music more. The professional work days diminished his capacity to play public performance music during the week, relegating his passion to weekends only. He resigned from E&Y after deciding to combine his love of music with business, in an entity driven by his own steam. So at age 21, Ryan set about building a band and a regular music-lover following using the learning from the ‘street wise’ business lessons early on.

Ryan primarily played the pub scene whilst also being swayed to perform at selected corporate functions and special events. Glowing reports flowed in from companies who include TripleM, Ripcurl, Sydney Swans Football Club, Geelong Football Club, Geelong Harness Racing, National Union of Workers at Flemington Racecourse and the AFL in Federation Square during Grand Final Week. His successful cover gigs also spawned original support slots for Mark Lizotte (Diesel) and Mark Seymour (ex Hunters and Collectors).

Running his own music entity profitably for 10 years meant he practised and played between 30-50 hours per week and refined his sales, marketing, promotion, negotiation, communication, people, and cash flow management skills in the process. To complement his band income, Ryan also managed his own portfolio; trading shares, CFDs and then Options & Futures. The hands on experience in the world of finance and the global markets provided additional valuable insight to enhance his business acumen.

Playing music and share trading served Ryan well until Lisa persuaded him she was in need of his sharp business acumen and people skills to support her client base - just part-time she said! He now balances his work load between music, share trading and his role at businessbalance® which includes managing the operation of two successful short-stay boutique properties. He thoroughly enjoys working along side his big sister and benefitting from her guidance & direction.

An avid reader of business & self improvement literature Ryan loves seeing businesses come to life when business owners can passionately apply the businessbalance® working models.
